How to motivate yourself when learning English?
Learning a new language requires the learner's patience, perseverance, and love. To be good at English, you will take a lot of time, sometimes up to several years. During that time, there are times when you feel like you're falling behind. So how to be more motivated to learn English? How do you motivate yourself to keep trying? Here are some shares of Eclass, please refer to them.
How to stay motivated when learning English?
Never compare your English skills with others
One reason many English learners feel frustrated with their skills is comparing themselves to native English speakers or other learners who have reached advanced levels. If they find their English is not as good as others, they will start to feel ashamed of themselves - imperfect, inferior, etc.
Don't compare - it's not fair!
Native English speakers have spent more than 20 years living in real English-speaking environments 24 hours a day. They've watched thousands of hours of TV in English, spent years teaching in schools, read lots of books in English, and engaged in millions of English conversations. In other words, English is their native language, just as Vietnamese is your native language.
That is a big advantage. If you go through what they went through, you'll be a native speaker too. So comparing yourself, as an English learner, with a native English speaker is pointless. Learning a new language is a different and incomparable experience from being raised as a native speaker from birth.
You should also not compare yourself to other English learners. The reality is that everyone learns with their ways - some people are naturally quicker to pick up languages while others slower. Some people invested more time in learning while others spent less time. Some learners already have excellent teachers guiding them while others have difficulty finding a good teacher or method.
Don't compare your English skills with anyone else's. You need to focus on your personal progress.

Think positive - Your English is probably better than you think!
Unfortunately, a lot of English learners have a very negative view of their English skills. Do you ever find yourself saying or thinking things like this? Kind of like:
"I make a lot of mistakes when I speak English"
"I'm afraid to speak because other people may not understand what I'm saying."
"I have studied for many years but my English is still poor."
I can honestly tell you this - Your English is probably better than you imagine. As the best English tutor in HCM, Eclass has interacted with thousands of students. Our teachers have corrected hundreds of students' homework in their courses. So we can say with confidence that most of you are learning English very well!
Of course, the improvement is still needed but in reality, you already have good English skills, and we can understand your speaking and writing. That is a great achievement.
So, if you underestimate your English ability, try to put those negative thoughts behind you and focus on what you CAN do, not what you can't do yet.
Don't blame yourself when you make a mistake
“MISTAKES” is what most learners fear when using English… It can also make you feel humiliated when someone corrects you… When you hear pronunciation errors, word errors, or grammatical errors. French, do they think you don't know the rules of English?
Is not!
They just correct your mistakes so you have better English skills.
The goal of learning English is to communicate and the fact is that even if you make a lot of mistakes when you speak, it won't ruin the conversation. For example:
If you say “It depends of the weather” instead of the exact version of “It depends on the weather,” people will still understand what you mean (and many people won't even realize you're making a mistake using the word).
If you say “I live here for 3 years” instead of the main version “I’ve lived here for 3 years” or “I’ve been living here for three years,” people will still know what you are talking about.
Even if you make a bigger mistake that causes communication problems, that's NORMAL - it's part of the language learning process! Just try to make it clear by using other words. Think of another, simpler way to say what you want to say.
Making mistakes does NOT mean you are stupid. Choose to see mistakes as an opportunity to learn, not something to be ashamed of!
